Our Breeding Stock & Herd Philosophy:

Our herd at Blue Seal Farm is built on a powerful foundation of three premier beef breeds: Charolais, Gelbvieh, and Hereford.

Our breeding program is strategically designed to capture the best qualities of each. We rely on the Hereford for its hardiness and renowned maternal instincts, the Gelbvieh for its fertility and excellent growth, and the Charolais for its superior muscle and high-quality yield.

We track the production of our cows and breed for physical traits that are most successful in our management system. Functional, high-performing cattle are our top priority.

We select for:

• Medium-frame animals for efficiency.
• Good feet and legs to ensure our cattle can travel in all conditions.
• Functional udders that allow calves to nurse quickly and efficiently.
• Calm temperament, which is essential for a manageable herd.

To ensure strong genetics, we carefully select our bulls, whether raised from our own herd or sourced from other reputable breeders. This focus allows us to produce excellent calves that can be used as replacement cattle for our own herd, for other herds, or as top-tier market cattle.

We believe exceptional beef starts with a high-quality life. Our cattle are raised on pasture with high-quality forages. They are then grain-finished to achieve the beautiful marbling and rich, full flavour that makes for a premium eating experience.

We are proud to raise our cattle without any added growth promotants, antibiotics, or hormones.

The final, crucial step to producing tender, great-tasting beef is the aging process.
