Our Story

Blue Seal Farm was started in 1982 as a family-run enterprise dedicated to the enjoyment of producing top-quality Ontario lamb and beef.

Blue Seal Farm is a family owned and operated farm located in Rutherglen, Ontario east of North Bay, Ontario. Vincent Shank was born and raised on a farm and in 2000 he purchased the farm from his father as part of the family succession plan. Originally started as a hobby farm we have significantly grown and currently manage a flock of about 100 ewes and about 100 head of beef cattle. We raise the sheep and cattle on approximately 400 acres of high-quality pasture. Meticulous attention is paid to nutrition and animal health and we rely heavily on Livestock Guardian Dogs for predator protection.

Over the past 5 years the farm has grown to a point that it requires the support of full-time staff. It is extremely important to us that we have employees who have a passion for a farming lifestyle. The positions available at the farm are unique in that they include housing, amenities and wages.

As the farm has increased production and capacity over the years we now have full and part time employees with varying responsibilities throughout the operation.
